Welcome to the Independent Democratic Union website.

The Independent Democratic Union is registered under the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992. The certificate issued under Section 2 (5) is entered in the list of trade unions 787T.

Originally formed as the AA Democratic Union on the 28th February 2005, recent changes within the AA's ownership has given us the opportunity to expand the Unions field of influence and on the 15th October 2007 the Representatives of the AADU confirmed a title change to reflect our increasing membership and expanding areas of representation. The Independent Democratic Union has, at its foundation, years of experience working for the trade union movement representing staff at all levels. The IDU is truly independent and does not currently affiliate to any political party and is free to determine and pursue the best policies for our members.

We are a thriving and modern trade union, which services and supports members within many occupations including, the AA Patrol force, Call Handling, Insurance, Hotel Inspectors, Signs Officers, Engineers, Teleworkers and Administration and Support staff.

This Union is committed to improving the working lives of its members, our work is not just about pay and conditions but a range of issues that affect our members' working lives: contracts of employment, hours, leave, maternity, pensions, performance pay, promotion procedures, etc.

We believe all our members should take an active part when changes at work are made. The IDU are committed to engaging with employers to produce better, fairer and more productive working conditions.
